Atlanta Council Member Cleta Winslow Sponsors Free Homebuyer Seminar and Neighborhood Bus Tour

March 23, 2010

For years Atlanta has become a favorite destination for transplants from all over the country, especially those from the Midwest. Atlanta offers the feel of a bustling city, familiar to most Midwesterners, but with so many inviting urban areas, often times, they don’t know which area in the city to call home.  However, City of Atlanta Council member Cleta Winslow wants to make sure District 4 in Southwest Atlanta is on the top of their list of destinations to call home by providing an interactive glimpse of life worth living in Southwest Atlanta with her annual neighborhood bus tour and free homebuyer seminar.

This second annual tour will highlight Southwest Atlanta communities, parks, schools and even give participants a chance to meet some of the residents that call this district home.  Spearheaded by Council member Winslow, she has become a committed advocate for affordable housing as well as a resource for people looking for home financing options in the city.

“We as public officials have to do a better job to market our city”, Council member Winslow stated.  She continued to explain “It’s our responsibility to market what we have, but the problem is many just don’t know how”. Council member Winslow is doing her part to bring new life and vitality to her beloved district with hopes of social and economical change for the betterment of the community.

Tour participants will learn how to qualify for close to $60,000 in down payment assistance, first-time buyer tax credits and other programs offered through the Atlanta Development Authority. Wells Fargo/Wachovia will be on hand to discuss their mortgage programs including 203K mortgage (rehabilitation mortgage), reverse mortgage, FHA, VA, and Remodel Express.

Wells Fargo /Wachovia will also have a private area designated to discuss their Foreclosure Prevention Program with current home owners who already have mortgages with them, those who currently live in zip codes 30310, 30311, 30312, 30313, 30314 and 30315 and those who have already made an appointment.  Adding value to an already generous opportunity, HomeFree-USA counselors will be present to provide additional assistance.  For information on foreclosure prevention, homeowners should call HomeFree-USA at (404) 607-0800.

This spectacular event is free and will take place on Saturday, March 27th, 2010 starting at 8:00 A.M. and will conclude at 3:00 P.M. Interested participants should meet at 8:00 A.M. at the Atlanta City Hall in the second floor Council Chamber located at 55 Trinity Avenue, SW Atlanta, GA 30303.  Busses will load promptly at 11:00A.M.  The seminar and tour is open to all metro Atlanta residents. To register, call (404) 330-6047.

A big thank you is in order for Council member Cleta Winslow.  It’s always refreshing to see elected officials who not only love their job, but are committed to making sure valuable information is disseminated and the people are informed.
